In a collaborative effort between South Texas Natives and the Bank of America Foundation, youth organizations such as The 4-H Club, Future Farmers of America, and South Texas middle schools are encouraged to participate in our native seed collection program. We offer fund raising opportunities and grant awards to youth organizations in South Texas that collect and sell seed back to South Texas Natives for habitat restoration programs.

These activities are ideal for science classes or agriculture leadership programs, with the added incentive of raising funds for school or club activities. Children will learn about native plants and their importance to South Texas ecosystems, how to identify species in the field, and how to process and handle seed. Teachers and youth leaders will be provided with a brief precursory workshop on native seed, and teaching materials for the youth.
Trained staff will coordinate collection sites and accompany youth leaders and students in the field. Only grades 5-7 are eligible, and collections will be conducted solely in the 33 counties of South Texas.
